With most series of artwork… there is usually a stand-out, one that seems to rise above the rest. In the Go Fish series this octopus was that piece for me! I feel it's one of the strongest. I like to think it took over control and started steering the ship 🏴☠️

In the end there is just something about this piece that really embodies the essence of this whole Go Fish series... The colors, the lighting, the slightly humorous attitude of the creature itself, and overall vibe, all came together to create something unique. I knew right when I finished it that it would become the cover of the card deck, and if I had an alternate title for this one, it would certainly be “The Captain”

There’s something so mysterious and powerful about orcas. They are one of the most vicious predators in the ocean. Hunting in packs, taking down other species of whales and sharks… not something I would want to encounter too closely 😳 But I’m stoked to admire from a safe distance!

With this piece I was hoping to capture a single moment from this celestial dance, between the orcas and the northern lights - frozen in time, beneath and above, the frigid waters and colossal icebergs of the untamed north ❄️

OUT OF SIGHT
Diving deeper… among the deepest, are the Humpback Whales. These gentle giants live in all oceans around the globe, and have the longest migration of any animal on the planet - sometimes up to 5,000 miles. It’s wild to think of something so gigantic, traveling such extreme distances, all while largely out of sight from our existence on the surface… save for the occasional breech, which is just pure magic to witness!

A WHALE OF TAIL
Whale songs can range from 4 - 30+ minutes! There have been some songs recorded near Hawaii lasting as long as 7 hours 😳There’s lots of speculation as to why whales sing, but it’s still mostly a mystery. I would imagine it’s a form of communication, but perhaps also just for joy of it 🤙

Saving the scariest for last 😳 I knew I was going to have to tackle these guys at some point. Sharks are some of the strongest, fastest, and certainly most frightening apex predators in the oceans. I’m super intimidated by sharks, largely due to the fear forced upon me from watching the classic movie JAWS as a kid. I grew up thinking they were savage beasts that would viciously rip your limbs off at any moment. And while this may be true in some situations, I’ve come to view them in a less terrorizing way lately.
